Flower

Flower in the garden, pretty as a picture,

Your fragrance draws them to you.

Flower in the garden, pretty as a picture,

Every butterfly and bee too.

Flower in the garden, pretty as a picture,

They love the way you look.

Flower in the garden, pretty as a picture,

You make beautiful, every nook.

Flower in the garden, pretty as a picture,

You adorn that girl’s hair.

Flower in the garden, pretty as a picture,

You seem loved everywhere.

But…

Flower in the garden, why, so sombre?

Is that dew your tears?

Flower in the garden, why, so sombre?

Do you hide your pain and fears?

Flower in the garden, why, so sombre?

Do you dread the time the gardener may cut you away?

Flower in the garden, why, so sombre?

Do you feel sad today?

Flower in the garden, why, so sombre?

Do you secretly dislike the thief, the bee?

Flower in the garden, why, so sombre?

Did anyone ever ask you these?

So…

Flower in the garden, brave as a soldier,

I understand you.

Flower in the garden, brave as a soldier,

I see what you must go through.

Flower in the garden, brave as a soldier,

I will not steal your fragrance away.

Flower in the garden, brave as a soldier,

I will not pluck you out today.

Flower in the garden, brave as a soldier,

I will see that your story lives through time.

Flower in the garden, brave as a soldier,

By painting you with my words in this rhyme.

-Divya

{This rhyme came to me at a time when I was feeling low about something. It speaks of the silent struggle of a flower. This is what it looks like at the outset.

On a deeper scale, it is meant to convey the message that many people live against the odds and fight a silent struggle everyday. Many a times, their struggle seems very trivial to us. In reality, it is nothing less than the Himalaya they face each day.

I want to say to every such hero that I see you, I understand you and I salute you.

Reader, do you know any silent heroes in your life? Then let them know you understand them. Life is too short to procrastinate showing kindness and love.

This is dedicated to every silent fighter in the world.

Especially dedicated to you, my personal, happy, bubbly, and full-of-life flower. (You will understand that its meant for you when you read it.)}

  1. It’s so meaningful Divya.
You have described the beauty, silent struggles & everything very beautifully. True, many people struggle quietly. They deserve all the happiness & that happens when we recognise them.
    Loved it☺
